The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in a significant legal matter involving 16 state governments that are challenging the constitutionality of the laws establishing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and related agencies.
On Tuesday, a seven-member panel of justices, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, concluded the proceedings after hearing arguments from the legal representatives of the parties involved.
The states participating in the suit, marked as SC/CV/178/2023, include Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Ogun, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Enugu, Benue, Anambra, Plateau, Cross River, and Niger.
OBSERVERSTIMES earlier reported that the Attorneys General of Anambra, Adamawa, and Ebonyi have officially withdrawn from the suit, a request that was granted by the panel.
