Witnesses have reported that the chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Jaro Egbo, allegedly slapped the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Lucky Ofomukoro, following a heated argument. The incident took place during a town hall meeting in Ughelli and disrupted the meeting organized by the Senior Political Adviser to the state governor, Senator Emmanuel Edesiri Aguariavwodo.
According to a former councillor who was present at the meeting, the altercation began when the PDP chairman recognized a party member to speak, but the council chairman refused and asked the member to sit down. This led to a confrontation where Egbo allegedly slapped Ofomukoro, lead to a physical altercation between the two.
The council chairman denied the allegations, claiming that the incident was instigated by a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who he accused of causing trouble during the meeting. He emphasized that he did not slap the party chairman and dismissed the claims as false.
Despite the altercation, the meeting continued as the Senior Political Adviser urged Urhobo monarchs, religious leaders, party members, and the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his second-term bid in 2027. The focus was on unity, peaceful co-existence, and working together for the success of the party in the future.
This incident follows previous controversies involving the council chairman, including threats against an investigative journalist in August. The community continues to navigate through these challenges as they work towards a more peaceful and united future.
