Vice President Kashim Shettima (@officialSKSM) has called for stronger ties between the federal government and traditional institutions, emphasizing their vital role in national development and social cohesion.
During a visit to the Ningi Emirate in Bauchi State on Friday, the Vice President offered condolences for the passing of the late Emir of Ningi, HRH Alhaji Yunusa Muhammed DanYaya, and congratulated the newly installed Emir, HRH Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, who is the late Emir’s eldest son.
VP Shettima remarked that traditional institutions are not only custodians of culture, values, and history but also the backbone of society. He noted their crucial role in maintaining national unity and societal stability, while also inspiring appreciation for the country’s diversity.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@officialABAT), myself, and the entire government of Nigeria, I express our deepest condolences for the loss of an emir who left a legacy of integrity, service, and peace. As we congratulate you, HRH Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Danyaya, on your assumption of office, we pledge our sincerest support for your reign,” he stated.
VP Shettima praised the late Emir for his remarkable 88 years of service, highlighting his status as the longest-reigning Emir in Ningi’s history and his contributions to the nation prior to his enthronement.
Addressing the new Emir, Shettima reaffirmed the federal government’s support and underscored the importance of continuity in leadership. “We stand with you as partners in progress, and our doors are always open to our traditional rulers for wisdom, guidance, and advice,” he added.
The Vice President also acknowledged the strong connections between the federal government and the Ningi Emirate, citing several Bauchi State natives serving in the Presidency, including his ADC, N.Y Sule, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital Media and National Emergency, Malam Ahmed Ishaq Ningi (@Sharksawn).
Earlier, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed (@SenBalaMohammed), welcomed Vice President Shettima, commending his humility and respect for all. He described the visit as a “double-edged sword” to both console the people and congratulate the new Emir.
The new Emir of Ningi expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his visit and thanked Governor Mohammed for endorsing his installation as his father’s successor.
Among the dignitaries present were the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman; and other senior government officials.
In related engagements, Vice President Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, visited Kaduna State to commiserate with the state government and the family of the late Hon. Justice Tanimu Zailani, former Chief Judge of Kaduna State. He expressed sadness over Justice Zailani’s demise and prayed for his eternal rest.
“I’m here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who directed me to come to Kaduna and condole with the government and the immediate family of the deceased,” he said.
Justice Zailani served as the Head of the Kaduna State Judiciary and was the Chief Judge of the High Court of Kaduna State from 2013 to 2018.
