MASS EXODUS: Nigerian Soldiers Flee to Foreign Armies Amidst Poor Welfare, Inadequate Equipment

The Nigerian Army is facing an unprecedented crisis as dozens of soldiers have resigned to join foreign military forces, including the British Army and Ukrainian Army. The mass exodus is attributed to poor welfare, inadequate equipment, and lack of motivation within the Nigerian Army.

Sources reveal that many more soldiers are awaiting approval to leave, with some expressing frustration over the government’s failure to provide decent living conditions, modern weapons, and adequate compensation to combat a series of non-state actors ravaging the country.

A document obtained by SaharaReporters confirms the mass resignation, with 27 soldiers approved for voluntary discharge. The soldiers are mostly from the medical corps, but infantry and armored corps personnel are also planning to leave.

The crisis is further compounded by the government’s failure to pay salaries and bonuses on time, with some soldiers not receiving payment for months. The situation has led to low morale and a sense of hopelessness among the soldiers.

“It’s a difficult situation, and many soldiers are running to join foreign armies because the work is no longer sustainable,” a source in the Nigerian military informed SaharaReporters. “Even the planned protest, many soldiers are praying it should happen.”

The development raises concerns about the Nigerian Army’s ability to combat security threats, as experienced soldiers leave to join foreign forces. The government’s failure to address the welfare and equipment needs of its soldiers may have long-term consequences for the country’s security.

Efforts to reach the army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, were unsuccessful.

As the situation continues to unfold, many are left wondering about the future of the Nigerian Army and the country’s ability to protect its citizens.
