Ibrahim Lamorde, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has died at the age of 61. He passed away in Egypt, where he had gone for medical treatment.
Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Inspector General of Police before his retirement in 2021.
During his time in the police force, Lamorde served as the EFCC Chairman from 2011 to 2015, making him the third Executive Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed in an acting capacity in 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri, and was later confirmed as the substantive Chairman by the Senate in 2012.
Lamorde’s tenure at the EFCC was marked by several high-profile cases and convictions, and he was known for his dedication to the fight against corruption.
He is survived by his family and friends, who remember him as a dedicated public servant and a champion of the anti-corruption cause. His legacy continues to inspire those who work towards a corruption-free Nigeria.
