Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara officially swore in eight newly-screened commissioners on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of meticulous record-keeping within their respective ministries.
During the swearing-in ceremony, held at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor Fubara highlighted the critical role of accurate documentation in ensuring the efficient operation of the civil service. He noted that maintaining thorough records helps preserve a useful history of events, decisions, and productivity metrics.
The State House of Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, had screened and confirmed the nominees just hours before the ceremony. Governor Fubara expressed regret over the past administration’s lapses in documentation, urging the new commissioners to learn from these mistakes and work closely with their Permanent Secretaries.
He stated, “Some of them who left here as commissioners, there are no records in their ministries. But you that are coming in now, please, do this work as seasoned administrators. Work with your Permanent Secretaries, the things that you don’t know, ask questions from them.”

Governor Fubara stressed the importance of discipline and detailed record-keeping, attributes he has cultivated throughout his career in the civil service. He assured that his administration is committed to high standards of discipline and transparency, which should be mirrored by the new commissioners.
“Let me say this, this government is a government that is birthed by high-level discipline,” Fubara remarked. He added that the records from his tenure are meticulously maintained, setting a standard for the incoming officials.
The Governor also reminded the new commissioners of their responsibility to uphold the Constitution and serve the interests of Rivers State, not merely follow his directives. He called on them to act with integrity and defend the state’s dignity.
Fubara concluded by expressing confidence in the new commissioners’ ability to contribute positively to his administration, urging them to strive for greater success and always prioritize the state’s interests.
