Betta Edu and the Law of Karma, By ABUBAKAR YUSUF.

In Nigeria politics, it takes a twinkle of an eye to gain all political fame, conversely when not thread softly, it also takes similar route to loose everything.

For the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation , she will be loosing everything because she had forgotten that the road to success, is also the same road to failure, particularly when you are inundated with betrayels.

Edu who started her political life from the administration of Professor Ayade as Cross River State governor, she was appointed as Special Adviser, Public Health and later rose to become Cross River State Commissioner for Health through the assistance of the wife of the governor ,who later became her arch enemy. What happened, the rest is history and left for posterity.

She was serving out her term as Health commissioner and was recommended by the governor as the next APC National Woman Leader after the governor’s defection from PDP to APC in a terse and tense political manouvre.

As the newly elected APC National Woman Leader, she began wielding so much power beyond the former governor of cross river state as her political benefactor, almost affecting some political chances of the outgoing governor at that point in time.

Having shot her way to national limelight, Dr Betta Edu was involved in series of manouvres, lobbyings , connections that had left his political route of Cross River State panicky.

As the new National Woman Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC she became so relevant beyond imagination , stepping on toes consciously and unconsciously , not conversant with the day of reckoning.

She played a leading role during the 2023 general elections both at the women front and had deliberately denied men of their access and entitlements.

Edu became too powerful and popular with an uninterrupted access to the former President, President elect as he then was, and the wife of the President occasion before the swearing in May, 29, 2023.

During the ministerial lobbying and appointment, she was one of the powerful women in the cabinet who was already sure of a grade A portfolio before the announcement and inauguration of the cabinet.

She did not only sent his former benefactor, Governor Ayade out of a ministerial appointment after leaving office and out of job, but many prominent APC stalwarts and PDP decampees who left to work for APC for possible ministerial appointment or positions.

Having secured a grade A ministerial appointment, Edu became overbearing, overzealous and uncontrollable in all areas including her domestic activities, as she hardly heed to advises.

She had the final say to the activities of the Ministry, parastatals and agencies under her with little or no recourse to advise and saw her self as ultravires.

This was obvious because of the circumstances that led to her appointment, hence she felt much at home to do anything she felt like, before the current travails.

She treated both her direct, indirect and adjunct or adhoc staff without consideration to any form of formal or informal relationship, as on daily basis complaints over her conducts was always the talk of the Ministry.

The no love lust relationship continues untill the beginning of the troubles and scandal of 585M fraud that had grown to a serious monster.

The last encounter was the controversial payment of the outstanding N Power beneficiaries and payment of adhoc staffs attached to Edu’s office for media relationship having converted them to freelancers feigning his decisions on the inability of the Ministry to still sustain them.

The ugly development continues till the last straw that breaks the camel’s back and the nemesis therein.

For Betta who had gained everything within a swoop , have now lost not only relationship built over the years from his upbringing, but even her hard earned image was now in doubt.
