NASC Chairman, Amshi Declares Three Day National and State Assemblies Conference Open in Abuja- By Abubakar Yusuf

The National Assembly Service Commission NASC Chairman, Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi FNSE has declared three day conference for National and State House of Assembly commissions open with a charge to government at the state level to leverage on the current democratic dispensation and allowed it to thrive to its fullest.

Amshi who made this observation during the opening ceremony of the three day conference on Wednesday for the 36 states House of Assembly commissions reiterated for total independent of the commissions in the states both administratively and financially.

The Executive Chairman who maintained that the theme of this year’s conference “Excellence In Parliamentary Service ” – A Panacea for Good Legislation for Democratic Governance ” was not only to access the democratic practices at various level , but to refocus the need to strengthen it’s functions and applications particularly at the state levels.

He commended state governors for heeding to the admonition of the National Assembly Service Commission NASC to set up an independent State Assembly service commissions, while appealing to few states to take cue from others.

Amshi maintained that the National Assembly Service Commission NASC is completely insulated from the controls of the Executive, stating that the desire of it to trickle down to States was always the focus of the commission.

“Let me commend the large turn out of participants at this year’s conference from the states, as this was an indicator that government at the state level has key into the sane democratic practices and provided room for improvement.”

He appeal for more concerted efforts to consolidate on the gains already recorded in the last few years , stating that the beauty of democracy at all levels is for all arms to be able to ascertain itself.

The three day conference is expected to witness technical sessions and make recommendations towards the improvement and sustenance of the activities of the National and State Assembly Service Commissions, through a communique at the end of the program.

The occasion was graced by the Senate President, Obong Godswill Akpabio and Speaker , House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas.
