In the midst of swirling debates over President Bola Tinubu’s academic records, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has firmly stated that the administration will not be distracted by what he refers to as “trivial matters.” The minister made these comments during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on a recent Wednesday.
Tuggar emphasized that the controversy surrounding President Tinubu’s academic credentials should not overshadow his recent international engagements. He argued, “There is a tendency to always try to distract people on such frivolous issues as opposed to facing the major issues of development. We don’t have time to waste on that.”
Drawing parallels with a past leader, Muhammadu Buhari, Tuggar pointed out that similar questions were raised about his qualifications. “Nobody is wasting time about certificate qualification for somebody who has been a governor of a state, served two terms, and has been on the national stage as a politician,” he remarked. He noted that even Buhari faced inquiries about his secondary school education, despite his prominent position and leadership history.
Tuggar further asserted that during President Tinubu’s recent international meetings, foreign leaders and international organizations showed no interest in the academic records saga. He stated, “The foreign leaders that we’ve been engaging and the international organizations clearly are disinterested in wasting time on such. We pay no mind to that.”
