Arewa Community in Lagos State has said it will deliver about 1.5 million votes for Tinubu/Shettima presidency in 2023 elections.
The decision was taken at a forum to confirm Alhaji Sa’adu Gulma as chairman of Arewa Community in Lagos APC at the Trailer Park in Oko-Oba Abattoir.
Sa’adu said the years of balkanised Arewa community in Lagos had not brought any good to his people, ‘and so this new era is necessary to forge a more beneficial community where every segment is recognised and given opportunity to strive’.
He said: “It is a new dawn and a new chapter, having been confirmed state chairman of Arewa Community in Lagos. Objective politics is now in full gear. Lagos Arewa Community will deliver 1.5 million votes to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu come 2023
Woman Leader Hajia Fatima Bako stressed the involvement of women in the political space, saying ‘it is time to repay Asiwaju who has invested so much in people, not minding their diverse ethnic and tribal leanings’.
Former woman leader Hajia Azabe Zavi affirmed that block votes would be delivered by Arewa women to ensure Asiwaju wins the election.
“We are on ground; we are better recognised now more than ever before. The women are on ground and behind Asiwaju. It is time to pay Asiwaju back. The tenure of Governor Babatunde Fashola was the last time we had block vote, now we are replicating that again, Asiwaju’s presidency is none negotiable.”
Kudu Abubarka, one of the Arewa mobilisation stakeholders, stressed they were out to break the record set during Fashola’s time.
Arewa communities represented at the forum were Coalition of Arewa community (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states); Cattle Dealers Association; Shuwa Arab Progressives Forum; Arewa Okada Riders community; Otto Arewa Community; among others.
