Senator Nicholas Ugbane mourns ex-Dangote Cement Group MD, Joseph Makoju condoles with the Family.

Senator Nicholas Ugbane has condoled with the family of the late Engr Joseph Makoju , who died on , April 11th in a private Hospital in Abuja.
Kogi East former senator said Ugbane was his very close ally “in difficulties and in joy,” adding: “His death has deeply touched me personally” and Nigeria would miss Makoju’s wisdom

Joseph Makoju, was a former group managing director and chief executive officer of Dangote Cement.

Ugbane described Makoju as humble, honest, hardworking and God-fearing personality, who placed national interest above all other considerations.

“He believes in decency, decorum and understanding. His death is a personal loss to me and the nation in general.”

Ugbane prayed fervently for the repose of the soul of the deceased and urged the family to bear the irreplaceable loss.

Makoju served as a special adviser on electric power to former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was also the honorary adviser to the president/chief executive, Dangote Group, and was a one-time chairman, Cement Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.

Makoju retired as the GMD/CEO of Dangote Cement in 2020, a position he had held since April 2018.

He was the pioneer chairman of the Board of the West African Power Pool and a former managing director of the National Electric Power Authority (Power Holding Company of Nigeria).

Makoju belongs to several professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Institute of Management and the British Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

He was awarded the Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) and Grand Commander of the Special Order of Merit (GCSO), Niger Republic.
