A recent analysis of the 10th National Assembly has revealed that 24 out of 109 senators have not introduced any bills within the first year of their tenure, which began on June 13, 2023. This is despite the fact that each of the remaining 85 senators has sponsored at least one bill.
The inactive senators include former governors, as well as other senators from various regions. On the other hand, some senators have been quite active in introducing bills, with Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) leading the pack with 23 bills, most of which originated from the Executive Arm of government.
Other active senators include Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North) with 17 bills, Sani Musa (APC, Niger East) with eight bills, and Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West) with seven bills, among others.
The analysis also revealed that nine out of 13 ex-governors in the Senate have actively proposed bills during the specified time frame. However, four former governors, including Senators Adams Oshiomhole, Henry Seriake Dickson, Simon Lalong, and Abdulaziz Yari, have not yet introduced any bills.
This report highlights the varying levels of activity and engagement among senators in the 10th National Assembly, with some being very active in introducing bills and others yet to make their mark in this regard.
