Confusion in The Villa As Presidential Aide Retracts Statement on Duty-Free Food Importation

Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu, has deleted a statement announcing a 150-day duty-free import window for food commodities. The statement, which was posted on his official X page, quoted Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari as saying that the President had approved the policy.

However, the statement was later retracted, and Onanuga deleted the post without providing further explanation. It is unclear whether the policy was actually approved or if the statement was released in error.

The retraction has sparked confusion and raised questions about the government’s plans to address food insecurity and importation policies. No further clarification has been provided by the presidency or the agriculture ministry.
