Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker from Kaduna State, has responded to criticism from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), regarding his effectiveness as a senator in the 8th Assembly. Sani emphasized the importance of his role in Nigerian politics and hinted at future engagements.
In an interview with Channels TV, Sani defended his contributions, highlighting his advocacy for democracy and the sacrifices he made while in politics. He attributed the current political freedom to the efforts of himself and others who fought against military dictatorship.
Sani stated, “People like Wike couldn’t have become a local government chairman, a governor, or a minister today if not for our struggle, he’s a beneficiary of our struggle with the sweat and all that.”
Regarding Wike’s criticisms, Sani maintained a diplomatic stance, saying, “He wasn’t specific. He was speaking in general terms.” However, Sani expressed readiness to engage in forthcoming debates, saying, “Next time we attend an event together, he will certainly receive a response. I don’t shy away from discussions.”
