His Eminence, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive action to address the current economic crisis, which has resulted in widespread poverty, inflation, and a high cost of living. He warned that failure to do so could lead to a replay of the recent protests in Kenya, where citizens took to the streets to demand change.
Speaking at the graduation and prize-giving ceremony of Pacesetters’ College, Wuye, Abuja, Cardinal Onaiyekan attributed the mass failures in public examinations to the neglect of public education in Nigeria. He lamented the appalling condition of citizens, particularly the poor, and urged lawmakers to prioritize laws that benefit the Nigerian people, rather than enacting anti-people policies that further impoverish them.
Cardinal Onaiyekan emphasized the need for unity and a conducive environment for development, stressing that every child should have access to quality education without fear. He commended the students of Pacesetters’ College for launching a campaign against bullying and urged school management to take necessary measures to address the issue.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pacesetters’ College, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon, attributed the school’s success to divine help, talented teachers, and dedicated parents. He encouraged the 320 graduating students to make a positive impact in the country and worldwide, having been adequately trained in character and learning.
