Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has terminated the appointment of Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse as Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council (RSTRC) and Paramount Ruler of Emohua Local Government Area. The governor cited inactivity and ineffective leadership as reasons for the termination.
In his place, Governor Fubara appointed Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Paramount Ruler of Apara Kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, as the new Chairman of the council. The appointment was made at a special meeting with members of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Governor Fubara expressed disappointment with the council’s inactivity under Eze Awuse’s leadership, particularly the failure to include his and the Deputy Governor’s photographs in the 2024 calendar. This, he said, demonstrated a lack of cooperation and respect for the state government.
The governor praised Eze Worlu Wodo’s fatherly personality, integrity, and pedigree, saying he is best suited to lead the council and promote harmony among traditional rulers and the state government.
Eze Worlu Wodo’s appointment is seen as a positive development in promoting unity and effective leadership in the council, and his ability to access and elicit cooperation from all traditional rulers is expected to bring about the much-needed direction and progress in the council.
