Distinguished Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, currently serving his second term as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, represents the good people of Kogi East Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. Throughout his illustrious career, he has been a beacon of excellence and a source of inspiration for many in Igalaland, particularly during my formative years. His remarkable achievements in the banking sector positioned him as a celebrated figure, and the anticipation for his entry into active politics was palpable among Kogites. This aspiration materialized when he answered the call to serve and aspired to become the Executive Governor of Kogi State in 2011.
The New Direction Administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, recognized Senator Echocho’s exceptional qualities and convinced him to contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Kogi East in the National Assembly. Over the past five years, this decision has been lauded, as Senator Echocho has successfully elevated the region through his dedicated service and impactful initiatives.
For the purpose of this publication, I will highlight some of his significant achievements under the following headings:
Legislative Contributions and National Development, and Human Capital Development.

Leveraging his extensive banking experience, Senator Echocho has introduced bills aimed at enhancing financial inclusion, promoting economic stability, and fostering a robust financial ecosystem. The most notable of these initiatives has been the ‘Kogi East Agricultural Youth Start-up Scheme’ that empowers over 100 youth farmers annually and the recently initiated ‘Youth Entrepreneurial Scheme’.
Senator Echocho has facilitated scholarships, vocational training programs, and various empowerment initiatives that have enabled many young people in Kogi East to acquire valuable skills and knowledge. These programs have not only improved the lives of individuals but have also contributed to the socio-economic development of the region. This vision to get children of average men acquire quality education led him to continually provide study aids and build or give face-lift to blocks of classrooms in numerous government-owned schools around Kogi East.
In addition to education, Senator Echocho has prioritized healthcare improvements in Kogi East. His efforts have led to the enhancement of healthcare facilities and increased access to medical services, significantly improving the well-being of his constituents. By focusing on emboldment schemes, education and healthcare, he ensures a holistic approach to human capital development.
