A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Salihu Lukman, has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating that it is “living in denial” and has failed to deliver on its promises. Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the APC, accused the government of being intolerant to dissenting voices and pursuing anti-poor policies.
Specifically, Lukman highlighted the withdrawal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira exchange rate as decisions that have harmed the poor and vulnerable. He noted that the government’s actions have led to a situation where the cost of imported petroleum products is higher than ever, despite claims that subsidies are gone.
Lukman also criticized the leadership style of President Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, saying they have made a mockery of democracy by ignoring party structures and consulting only with a select few. He called for a new, democratically alternative platform to challenge the APC and promote true democratic values.
The APC chieftain emphasized that democracy requires freedom of engagement and contest, and that citizens must rise above dishonest politicians who manipulate their way to power. He urged Nigerians to demand a functional political party with committed leaders who will submit to democratic processes and agreements.
Lukman’s statements come as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, and his criticism of the Tinubu administration’s policies and leadership style is likely to resonate with many Nigerians who are dissatisfied with the current state of affairs.
