Death of an Hero , late Senator Haruna Abubakar,

He was a Kanuri man of Nasarawa state origin.

He served as the Deputy Senate President Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Brief history of Haruna:

Abubakar was born on 6 June 1952. He became a lawyer and a businessman, and was legal adviser to the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) during the Nigerian Second Republic. He was the Managing Director of Pipelines and Petroleum Products Marketing Company in the 1990s.

After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999 he was appointed to committees on Selection (vice chairman), Senate Services, Petroleum, Judiciary, Economic Affairs and Local & Foreign Debts. He was also appointed Deputy Senate President in 1999.

He played vital role in making Lafiyan Barebari emerged as the capital of Nasarawa state.

Yet he also personally played some great roles towards reviving the speaking of the Kanuri language in the Lafia Kingdom in partnership with the Yobe and Borno states governments as well as the Borno Emirates Council and late Mai Agwai of Lafia.

He was the only native of Kanem-Bornu to have ever held the position of a D.senate President.

Abubakar passed on in a London hospital after a protracted illness on 27 February 2005. He was buried in Lafia town of Nasarawa state, Nigeria.

He was a nice man,he helps people.
