Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has criticized those supporting former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello in light of his recent issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bello was declared wanted by the EFCC in connection to an alleged N80.2 billion money laundering case. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede also accused Bello of transferring $720,000 from the government’s account to a bureau de change to pay for his child’s school fees before leaving office.
In a statement on Wednesday, Temitope stated that he would never defend such behavior if someone close to him had committed a similar crime like Yahaya Bello. He expressed disappointment in those who try to justify the misuse of public resources meant to benefit the people.
Temitope wrote, “If a friend or someone I know committed the kind of crime Yahaya Bello is accused of, I may not publicly criticize them. But I will never support or defend such terrible behavior that is clearly a crime against humanity.
“We are talking about resources meant to improve the lives of the people of Kogi State. It is shocking how some people try to justify such actions.”
