Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted Nigeria’s strategic partnership with China in propelling Africa’s progress. Shettima, speaking on behalf of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasized the administration’s commitment to enhancing this collaboration. Under President Tinubu’s leadership, foreign policy adjustments have been made to instill confidence among investors, fostering a conducive business environment within Nigeria.
Moreover, Vice President Shettima underlined the tangible steps taken by President Tinubu to facilitate ease of doing business in Nigeria, providing more investment opportunities. These remarks were delivered during Vice President Shettima’s attendance at the ongoing Belt And Road Initiative Forum in Beijing, China, where he was hosted by Vice President Han Zheng of the People’s Republic of China.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Vice President Shettima emphasized the need for Nigeria and China, who celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2021, to take control of their shared future. He announced plans to elevate their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, acknowledging the mutual benefits that both countries can reap from such cooperation.
Nigeria, China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa and the continent’s largest economy and most populous nation is pivotal in this partnership. The Belt and Road Initiative was cited as a vital framework for achieving shared goals.
The strengthening ties between Nigeria and China promise mutual advantages for both nations, according to Vice President Shettima. Vice President Zheng echoed this sentiment, assuring continued collaboration with Nigeria and suggesting that his meeting with Vice President Shettima would deepen political trust and practical cooperation.
The visit included a State Banquet hosted by Chinese President Jinping and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan. The upcoming Belt and Road Initiative Forum, scheduled at the Great Hall in Beijing, is expected to be a focal point, with Vice President Shettima set to deliver a paper titled “Digital Economy As A New Source Of Growth.” Additionally, bilateral meetings with the Chinese President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, as well as discussions with top Chinese construction, technology, finance, and communication industry leaders, are on the agenda for Vice President Shettima and his delegation.
