General in Kidnappers Den: Nigerian Major-General Spends Seven Days With Kidnappers As Police Say Rescue Ongoing

Nigerian Army’s Major-General (retd.), Richard Duru, has now spent seven days with his abductors as the Imo State command of the Nigeria Police Force assured that its operatives were still carrying out a rescue operation.

SaharaReporters had on September 29 exclusively that some gunmen abducted Duru in an Imo State community in Nigeria’s South-East.

It had been reported that the retired Major-General was abducted last weekend in Orji General area, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

SaharaReporters had learnt that Duru was driving himself in a black Mercedes Benz ML jeep when the gunmen ambushed him.

“He was kidnapped by 4 persons in a Toyota Sienna,” a signal obtained by SaharaReporters had read.

The kidnappers went with his vehicle and checkpoints were informed. His phone 08033567459 was tracked to Mba Itoli in Imo State before it was switched off.

“Efforts are ongoing to locate the kidnappers and rescue the rtd General. All are requested to make efforts using all contacts (though discretely) to hasten return of the kidnapped General.

“Maj Gen Duru is a member of 33rd Regular and NDC 18.”

Meanwhile, the lmo State Police Command has said that it is doing everything humanly possible to secure the release of the Major-General.

In a statement, Mohammad Ahamade Barde, Commissioner of Police in Imo, said upon hearing the news, he deployed the command’s tactical team to secure release of the General.

“We are on top of the matter; those involved will certainly be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The retired general is a native of Isiekenesi in ldeato South local government area of lmo.
