The Enugu North Lawyers Forum, a group of lawyers from Nzukka zone have urged former Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu to offer his wealth of experience and exposure to the State by vying for the governorship seat come 2023.
The group hailed the Senator for his pan-Enugu representation at the Senate and the national level. They however noted that the time was ripe for him to bring his national and international exposure and experience to the benefit of his home State.
The lawyers stated this during a courtesy visit to the lawmaker at his Enugu residence on Wednesday 20th January 2021, also pledging to purchase nomination form for him if only he would accept to run.
“We admire the way you have carried yourself as Senator representing not only Enugu West, but also Enugu East and Enugu North. We admire the experience and contacts you have built over the years.
“Our state needs quality governance come 2023 and we are convinced that you have the necessary exposure and the competence. So, we urge you to bring home your wealth of experience to the service of Enugu State. You don’t have to worry about the nomination form. We pledge to bear the cost as our initial contribution and pledge to be, supporting you all the way if only you would heed our call and accept to run ”, the group said.
They commended Ekweremadu for the various development projects he attracted to every zone of the state, and particularly for carrying the Enugu North zone along in road, water, electricity projects and the Ikeoha Scholarship Programme.
Enugu North Lawyers Forum said if the legislator could facilitate such numerous projects as a lawmaker without executive powers or control over any funds, he would do much more as an governor.
Responding, Ekweremadu thanked the lawyers for their support and goodwill, noting, however that the present state and federal administrations were less than two years into their current tenures.
He said it was time for governance and therefore charged the lawyers and every Enugu citizen pray for the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi administration and accord the governor the needed total support to continue to deliver peace, good governance, and development to the people.
He however told the legal professionals that he would take their visit into major consideration at the appropriate time and revert accordingly, as he looked forward to working with them for the good of Enugu State.
