The Urgent Need For New Attah And The Fate Of Igala People In A Divided Nigeria by Victor O Ekele

by

For more than 8 months now, the Igala lack the figurine head that is a supreme leader and father of Igala Nation as a whole. It is a shame for the Kingmakers and Igala traditional councils not to be able to decide and resolve the issues concerning the selection of the new Attah upto date which is something that is worrisome for the people of Igala Nation that ought to know their new King for months which shows to be complicated and confusing .
It is tedious to know that the whole process involves in the selection of the new Attah has been hijacked by who knows who, money and connection which is undermining the final selections. The Brothers seeking to be the Attah inability to resolve and settle within themselves is another factor that is holding and depriving the Igala Nation of having a new Attah Igala.
And to the situation on ground concerning the uncertainties that is happening in this country and our fate as a tribe in the Nigeria present constitutional review and the drumming of new countries that might emerge if Nigeria break up today.
As a leader of Igala race, the Attah will be among the chief influencer and the mover of the Igala interest during this period that the country is heading to a direction of war and confusing path.
What if Nigeria break up today, Who will dictate and mediate for the Igala race? Who will be the major influencers for the fate of Igala Nation? Who as a tribe and one language beckon upon for the interest of Igala Nation? Who will unite the Igala for the upcoming battle of survival as a nation and as an entity? Is it untill Nigeria collapses finally that a new leader will emerge? Or is it when we find ourselves in Arewa, Biafra, or Oduduwa before the king will emerge?.
If you can see clearly, Igala do not have a say currently where they truly belong in the divided Nigeria because the Igala is part of Biafra according to the Biafra map which is boldly indicated with the Idomas and the OOdua Republic also identified with the Igala in their Republic and the Arewa are also looking forward to annex us if we can not succeed the Middle belt Republic but above all, Igala Nation is a nation in a great dilemma.
Igala is the only tribe in the middle belt regions that can be associated with the Igbos of Biafra and at the same time with the Yoruba Nation because of our longtime past history and cultural relationship but the big question now is, ” where should we really belong if Nigeria break up today?”.
My opinion is quite personal and exquisitely, Middle belt will be a better option because it is only that region that will recognize our identity and pride. We are not Northerners and there’s nothing like North Central in my Geography all this year of my studies. North Central is a phrase to confuse we the Middle belt that we belong to the Hausa-Fulani and that we are their slaves for war and political tools.
This is a period that we need to wake up and stand for what we want and this is the period we need a ruler that can make decisions for us before it becomes too late. We don’t want a weak leader but a strong and a non partisan leader that can stand for the Igala Nation. God bless Ane’Igala. God bless our fate.
