The Director General National Productivity Center NPC,Dr Kashim Akor says the mandate of the centre is to inculcate,determine,monitor and stimulate leadership through productivity to enhance the living standard of Nigerians.
Dr Akor bare his mind during the maiden questions and answers edition of the agency’s Radio program tagged ‘Productivity Half Hour’ on Radio Nigeria,Abuja National station, Monitored by the OBSERVERS TIMES report.
According to the Director General, the first edition is deliberately convened to educate Nigerians, the global world on the operations and relevance of productivity both to the improvement of the national economy and enhance the quality of life of it’s citizenry.
He says the centre established under an act of the parliament derives its functions from CAP 70 of 2004, as an apex productivity organisation of goverment, aimed at streamlining the productive aspect of government and private sectors,as well as determine productivity consciousness.
Dr Akor maintained that the act enabled the centre to put in place a structure that will further streamline all efforts and activities that will promote production consciousness.
‘It is also charged with determining perfomance level,productivity consciousness,determine productivity level,monitor productivity trend,promoting and leading production movement in Nigeria in all sectors of the economy, to enhance the standard of living of the citizenry.’ The DG said
In his words, Productivity is key to any economy that is desirous of growth, and will not take the issue of productivity and it’s improvement with levity’.
Therefore, it is charged with the aim of streamlining productivity consciousness,organise a structured framework,through a deliberate and articulated policies.
The Director General says the NPC’s vision and mission is aimed at putting in place a world class productivity institution and a key player to enhance the overall growth and development of our objectivity.
With a vision to develop an innate mindset,culture through institutionalise productivity that will enhance,and propel service delivery and the national economy.
The vision further provides continuous developement in the human activities both in the private and public sectors to enhance national economy/ developement.
Dr Akor said other basic functions derivable from the mandate of the centre is that of consultancy,advisory services to management and workers of organizations aimed at utilising to the fullest all available and potentiai resources for production, and dissemination of information on methods and programs to improve productivity in all sectors of the economy, as well as conduct studies in both the levels of productivity and contemporary methods of improving productivity in all sectors of the economy.
