Anger in Igala land as unknown gunmen assassinates Community leader, Ogacheko in Kogi

Residents of Idah in Kogi East Senatorial district on Sunday thrown into mourning as unknown gunmen rained bullets on Mr. Ogacheko Atanu and killed him.

Family Sources, confirmed to OBSERVERS TIMES that gunmen stormed his residence in GRA, Idah at about 12am Sunday, 10th January, 2020, and snuffed life out of him.

According to reports, the assailants upon entry into his house while he was deep in sleep, ransacked his living rooms, while the late Atanu demanded to offer them money in order to spare him, but they declined, before shots were fired at him.

The deceased who was left in the pool of his blood was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Idah, but died few hours on Sunday morning.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Police Command, Williams Aya disclosed  that the matter was reported to the Command at about 5.

He said, the incident was reported by the DPO Idah zonal Police, saying, investigations would commence immediately to unravel the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

He noted that the body has been deposited at the mortuary, while the scene of the incident has been inspected.

Idah resident who spoke to OBSERVERS TIMES lamented that “the deceased was a philanthropist, loved by people for his magnanimity”, he explained while weeping.

The paper recalled that late Ogacheko Atanu has criticised the politicization of Attah Igala race which he insisted that due process should be followed.

He has been critical about political developments in Igala land and how some elements have sold out their consciences for their political gains.
