2021 Oyo Polls: Makinde Redefining Politics

With the 2021 Oyo state local government council elections underway; the indication so far is the general peaceful conduct of election across the thirty three (33) Local government areas of the state.

Prior to the election, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the executive governor of Oyo state had restated his resolve to commit to peace across the state irrespective of whatever, this is inline with his “Omi tutun” movement across the state which is gradually turning into a national movement as Makinde himself is a well loved and acceptable brand across board in Nigeria.

Star Boy, as he is fondly called, came on board with a brand of politics which seek to tactically and tacitly bequeath leadership responsibilities upon the younger generation. One of the first significant move was to back a more younger person to become the speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly. A move which is said to be historic since the existence of Nigeria as a country.

In a historic event, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, a lawmaker from Ibarapa East constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party is just thirty Four (34) years, became the youngest speaker of the 9th Assembly on 10 June, 2019. He became the youngest speaker ever in Nigeria under the distinguished leadership of His Excellency, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde has also set his eyes on the youth constituency as the ever growing demography proved to be the very future of our dear country, He appointed very youthful and creative minds around him to help drive his policies and deliver a 21st century governance to the good people of Oyo state, on whose mandate he freely stands.

A close look at the state council elections, the candidates who emerged under the platform of the PDP, the governor’s party, are youths who have distinguished themselves in their various walks of life, and proven to be well armed with the requisite know-how and wealth of experience to drive the visions of their principal, Engr. Makinde.

In a third world country like Nigeria, elections are without pockets of violence and a few rancor here and there, but if reports coming out of the majority of observers in Oyo state is anything to go by, then we might as well have a rare case of peaceful local council election in Nigeria.

No doubts, with the many exploits of Engr. Seyi Makinde in just under two (2) years of his stewardship in Oyo state, one can come to the conclusion that he (Makinde ) has redefined and still redefining what politics should be in the present day technology age.
